KOM Networks and Plasmon Provide DVD-RAM Data Storage Solution

KOM Networks, a leading innovator of storage virtualization and data management software, today announced that its OptiStorm® software, together with Plasmon's new D-series DVD-RAM Libraries now provides customers with a safe and cost effective solution for mass data storage.

KOM Networks' collaborative approach with Plasmon enables customers to choose from a host of storage technology alternatives including: CD, DVD, Magneto-optical, 12" WORM and tape. DVD-RAM is a recently developed storage technology that offers relatively good performance at a very reasonable cost per megabyte of storage.

OptiStorm® enables users to readily access and rewrite files stored on DVD­RAM media in Plasmon's DVD-RAM Libraries just as if they were accessing files from a hard disk drive. Whether it is medical images, graphics, text, or financial information – all files can easily be stored and retrieved using DVD-RAM technology.

OptiStorm® combines all the advantages of optical storage while retaining the access, convenience and functionality of hard disk drives. Operating on Windows NT/2000 platforms, OptiStorm® integrates into the operating system so seamlessly that users are completely unaware that they are accessing and storing data on optical drives.

Plasmon's DVD-RAM Library provides long life, rewritable technology for general-purpose data storage. Plasmon's D-Series Libraries allow for the mixing of drives and media to suit most applications and user requirements. DVD libraries are available with two, four, or six drives. Users may select single or double-sided media. With use of a patented flipper mechanism and 4.7GB double sided media, Plasmon DVD libraries can hold up to 4.5TB of data.
