KOM Networks and Sony Collaborate to Provide PDD Storage Solutions for Regulatory Compliance
KOMworx® Software Automates Data Migration to PDD Libraries for Regulatory Compliance
Ottawa ON, Canada – August 23, 2005
KOM Networks, a global leader of Compliance, Archiving and Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solutions, today announced full support for Sony Electronics' 23 GB Professional Disc for Data™ (PDD) Drive within its KOMworx suite of products . The PDD drive included in libraries from ASACA, DISC & DSM, delivers higher capacity, enhanced performance and longer data archival life.
KOMworx simplifies storage management by consolidating storage resources into a single storage volume, regardless of the technology and interconnectivity. KOMworx solutions are policy driven and dynamically managed helping organizations easily archive, access and protect digital assets across multiple storage devices. KOMworx extends simplified storage management to healthcare and financial applications, as well as third party applications such as Enterprise Content Management (ECM), E-mail archiving, and Document Management Systems (DMS).
"Our PDD technology, characterized by high capacity and performance, represents a new era in optical data storage, for companies seeking regulatory compliance," said Michael Hall, Product Marketing Manager optical storage solutions in Sony Electronics' Component Solutions Business Division. "Compliance and archiving solutions are crucial to preserving digital assets throughout the various data lifecycles. KOMworx support of industry standard technologies, file systems and open UDF format allows for simplified data management and integration free solutions," he added.
KOMworx adaptive design enables customers to transparently combine various storage technologies, including PDD and Hard Disk (direct attached, NAS and SAN) into a dynamically scalable single global namespace. KOMworx key features such as Hard Disk Fixed Content Archiving (e-WORM) and e-WORM++ (PDD, WORM permanence combined with high performance disk storage) deliver unmatched data protection and satisfy the most stringent regulatory requirements. In addition, built-in capabilities including replication, duplication and 'on-the-fly' configuration of storage resources significantly improve overall system performance.
"We have been working with Sony for many years, and have enjoyed a great deal of success by supporting Sony's storage technology with our storage management software," said Dr. Taher Shaath, CEO of KOM Networks. "Our combined solutions allow customers to select the best technology, and help maintain the delicate balance between performance, availability and regulatory compliance," Dr. Shaath added.
KOMworx allows users to transparently archive data onto the new PDD drive, which holds 23GB of storage capacity and offers five times the capacity of a DVD. PDD's increased capacity and enhanced performance matches well with KOMworx ability to efficiently manage storage space. KOMworx can help businesses achieve regulatory compliance using their existing storage resources and without disrupting access to information, in a cost-effective manner.
